There is a temptation God’s people wrestle with on an occasion. That temptation is believing that God is not at work in our life because we cannot “see” Him at work. Of course, we cannot see Him because “God is Spirit” and not a man (John 4:24). In Christ God can be seen but we do not have Christ with us at the moment… physically anyway (Matt. 1:23; 28:20; Heb. 1:5; John 14:3; Rev. 1:7). What I mean is that because we are not visibly seeing expected results or anticipated outcomes, we sometimes error in thinking that God is simply not at work in our life or in our family or in our local church or even in our country.
Nothing could be further from the truth because God is always at work in our life, family, local church, and country. God, in and through the Apostle Paul, gives us that assurance when in Romans 8:28 he writes:
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
God is always at work working ALL THINGS together in such a way that the end result is what is best for us. One only needs to look to the Old Testament book of Esther to realize/or to be reminded that God often times does not announce the fact that He is indeed at work in our life, family, local church, and country. Most often God is quietly working diligently behind the scenes of daily life… so quietly that He goes unnoticed.
As Christians, in and through the Apostle Paul, God has divinely called us to “walk by faith not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7). Our faith is certainly not a blind faith but rather a well informed faith. When we look to the historical record given to us in Sacred Scripture we learn/or are reminded of how God moved on behalf of His covenant people – the Church.
One clear observation that can be made is that the historical record in the Word of God reminds us of God’s faithfulness to keep the promises He has made to His people. One only needs to look to Genesis 3:15 and to the redemptive work of Christ to be reminded of God’s faithfulness.
All of this to say to you today… be encouraged! Just because you may not be able to discern God working in your life or family or local church, or our country does not mean He isn’t interested and at work. Just remember Romans 8:28. God is working “ALL THINGS” together for our good – those who love Him and called according to His purpose.
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29 (NKJV)
